Spanish composer Manuel DeFalla wrote his lush "Nights in the Gardens of Spain" for piano and orchestra when he was homesick in Paris. "I was so far from Spain that I may have depicted the nights as more beautiful than they are in reality -- that's Paris for you," he says of the piece.
