In anticipation of the 9th annual Run for Veterans Race, 7Hills Homeless Shelter CEO Jessica Andrews speaks with Pete Hartman in the Nancy Blair Operations Studio.

The four-mile run started in 2009 as a way to commemorate veterans and service members on Independence Day. Since 2010 the proceeds of the race have gone to 7Hills, which provides services to veterans and low-income veteran families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

An anonymous group has paid down a balloon payment for 7Hills Homeless Center to keep their day center in south Fayetteville from closing. 7Hills will now pay back the group over the course of several years instead of having to make one large payment, which Lynn Carver, the president of the 7Hills board, said the center would not have been able to do.

7Hills Homeless Center staff and board are working to find a solution to a financial crisis that has put their Day Center in jeopardy. The Day Center offers the homeless in Northwest Arkansas basic needs like showers, meals and a place to send their mail.

A concert Sunday will raise funds and awareness for 7Hills in Fayetteville.  Both, organizers, say are very important to battling homelessness.
