It’s now official, Paul Spencer announced on Thursday he is running as a Democrat to unseat Republican French Hill as central Arkansas’s U.S. Representative. The decision comes on the same day Senate Republicans released a revised version of legislation to repeal much of the Affordable Care Act.

In a statement, Spencer said Arkansans “stand to suffer real physical and material harm” as a result.
“We now stand at a crossroads. For years we have seen the political priorities of ordinary Americans drown in a sea of special interest money from the political donor class. But now, if the Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell Healthcare agenda passes, many people will find themselves one pre-existing condition away from financial ruin. Moreover, this may be followed by cruel tax and budget proposals, likely to be rubber-stamped by the Republican majority. Arkansans now stand to suffer real physical and material harm at the hands of the 115th Congress.”
A web ad was released corresponding with the announcement for the 2018 U.S. House seat. It features the voices of 2nd District residents talking about Spencer over video of him working with wood and operating a tractor. Spencer is a teacher at Catholic High School in Little Rock and operates a farm and apiary in Scott, where he lives.
His campaign is holding a kick-off rally at MacArthur Park in Little Rock on Saturday, July 22.
