Of Note for Wednesday, July 22, 2015: The Haunting Beauty of Debussy

Claude Debussy’s intimate relationship with music is perhaps most apparent in the delicacy of compositions like his sonata for flute, viola, and harp, which appears on the album Tre Voci along with compositions by Tōru Takemitsu and Sofia Gubaidulina. In the liner notes, Jürg Stenzl writes about Debussy’s sonata that the “sound and line are made completely ethereal and magical…The music begins literally to breathe like a living organism.” Experience the hauntingly beautiful landscape of this piece on Wednesday’s program.
