Of Note for Mon., May 9, 2016: Elizabeth Joy Roe Explores the 'Father of the Nocturne'

"Both as a composer and performer his only thought was to embody his own feelings," said musicologist Theodore Baker on John Field.

Although Chopin popularized the genre, Field, dubbed the "Father of the Nocturne," is credited with inventing the form by translating his emotions and his fascination with the night into beautiful melody.

On Monday's program catch highlights of Field's Nocturnes as performed by acclaimed American pianist Elizabeth Joy Roe. Listen in 11 to noon on KUAF.
