Juxtaposing Classic With Contemporary: The Rhizome String Quartet

The newly-christened Rhizome String Quartet juxtaposes the classical sounds of Beethoven with a contemporary string quartet by Jefferson Friedman in an honors college house concert tonight.

The ensemble, which consists of UA music faculty members Er-GeneKahng (1st violin),  Paulo Eskitch (viola), David Gerstein (cello), and composer/performer Ryan Cockerham (2nd violin) stop by the Firmin-Garner Performance studio to play and discuss the concert with Katy Henriksen.

Kahng tells Henriksen that the program is “a great juxtaposition of string quartets which use very conservative, Germanic style and contemporary American style.”
