An Italian String Quartet Performs Teen Webern

Internationally acclaimed Italian string quartet Quartetto di Cremona embarked on a stateside road tour last fall that included a stop at KUAF's own Firmin-Garner performance studio. Expecting to hear a movement of Beethoven as they continue their ambitious project to record the entirety of his chamber music for strings, I was surprised by a lush piece from a 16-year-old Anton Webern, better known for his heady work in the realm of 12-tone composition, one of the titans of that form in the 20th century, one of the first pieces the ensemble played together.  The entirety of the studio appearance is streamable right here.
