Internationally acclaimed Italian string quartet Quartetto di Cremona embarked on a stateside road tour last fall that included a stop at KUAF's own Firmin-Garner performance studio. Expecting to hear a movement of Beethoven as they continue their ambitious project to record the entirety of his chamber music for strings, I was surprised by a lush piece from a 16-year-old Anton Webern, better known for his heady work in the realm of 12-tone composition, one of the titans of that form in the 20th century, one of the first pieces the ensemble played together.
