How the Illustrious Red Violin Found Its Soul Mate

The Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius violin set a record when it was auctioned at Christie's on Thanksgiving Day in 1990. The famed instrument that is said to have inspired the story that became the Red Violin Oscar-winning film went to a sixteen-year-old named Elizabeth Pitcairn, who says she found her soul mate as soon as she first plucked the strings at the auction house. Pitcairn is the visiting violinist for this weekend's Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra concert "The Red Violin." Hear Pitcairn describe what it was like to play the Red Mendelssohn Violin for the first time in my interview with APO conductor Steven Byess and Pitcairn prior to this weekend's concert.
